What Are Musical Theatre Classes?

Musical Theatre combines three key performance disciplines: Drama, Dance and Singing. Our Fortitude Spotlight case learn how to communicate emotion, character and storytelling through all three elements while building strong foundations in performance technique. Throughout the year, the performers use all of these skills to work towards an annual Musical Theatre production, where every performer has an important role to play

Our Unique Approach
At Fortitude, we take a unique approach to Musical Theatre training. Rather than learning songs, scenes and dances in isolation, we work through a musical script in the order that it unfolds. Week by week, performers discover the story, characters, music and choreography as they appear in the show, gradually building the production from beginning to end. This approach helps children develop a deeper understanding of the entire show, how each moment connects, and the role they play within the story. It also keeps every class exciting, as students look forward to discovering what happens next in the script and seeing the production come to life.

Previous productions have included Grease, High School Musical, Madagascar, Just So, Seussical and The Lion King.

Developing Confidence, Creativity and Expression

One of the greatest benefits of Musical Theatre training is the confidence it helps young people develop. Through creative exercises, group work and performances, performers learn to trust themselves and express their ideas freely. Classes focus on nurturing creativity, imagination and individuality, helping children feel comfortable being seen, heard and celebrated. We encourage young people to express who they are, build stage presence and develop self-belief.

Musical Theatre also supports important life skills such as teamwork, focus and communication. Performers learn how to work together, support one another and take pride in shared achievements. Over time, many parents notice increased confidence, improved self-expression and a greater willingness to embrace new challenges. These are valuable skills that benefit young people both on stage and in everyday life.
